There are a number of factors which will determine how long your recovery will be after abdominoplasty. These include your general health at the time of surgery, the extensiveness of your abdominoplasty, and how well you follow Dr. Angelchik’s post-operative instructions.
In general, it is common for your recovery to take anywhere from two to four weeks depending on the type of tummy tuck procedure that was performed. The recovery period for a mini-tummy tuck is considerably faster since the procedure is much less extensive.
You will need to wear a compression garment for several weeks following your abdominoplasty to hold the skin and muscles in place and provide additional support while you heal. Dr. Angelchik will prescribe medication to relieve any discomfort you may feel during the initial stages of your recovery.
Dr. Angelchik generally recommends resuming light exercise about a week after your procedure to facilitate the healing process. At first, it is best to keep your exercise to light walking. You should be able to resume most normal activity after about two weeks, but avoid strenuous activity for approximately six weeks to ensure proper healing. In general, you should be able to return to work within one to two weeks.
Dr. Angelchik will discuss what to expect after your tummy tuck and provide you with detailed instructions to ensure your recovery goes as smoothly as possible. It may take up to three months before you see your final results.
